About

A greenway is a long corridor of protected open space, usually following natural geographic features, planned for environmental or scenic protection and to provide opportunities for recreation and non-motorized transportation.

The Dublin-Galway Greenway is a partially completed 'coast-to-coast' greenway. The 280km route (that was planned to be completed by 2020) will form part of the Euro Velo 2 cross europe cycle route. Sections of the route follow the Royal Canal from Dublin, as well as the disused Mullingar-Athlone rail line, and will cross the Shannon over a new bridge in Athlone and continue via County Galway.

This website is devoted to bringing you up to date information on the progression of the Dublin Galway greenway and surface all related news and events concerning the greenway.
